ThinkyGames.com is a hub and community for fans of the thinky game genre, providing news, reviews, and other content about all the amazing games in this space.
Thinky games are those that ask you to carefully reason your way through puzzles and challenges; games brimming with curiosity and discovery. If you find yourself thinking through a problem and then, when the insights finally dawn on you, exclaiming “aha!” – you’re probably playing a thinky game.
ThinkyGames.com was started by Tim W. of Warp Door fame with support from Astra Games, who believe in the power of thinky games to introduce playful problem solving to more homes. Bringing together a team of games journalism associates and thinky mega fans to write insightful and informative content, ThinkyGames.com was launched on 14th September 2022.
Joseph Mansfield (@sftrabbit) runs the YouTube channel Joe Plays Puzzle Games where he plays — you’ll never guess — puzzle games. Previously a software development lead, Joe decided to change things up and pursue his fascination with puzzle design, joining Astra Games to support their initiatives around growing the thinky genre. He also enjoys making his own games and puzzles, playing guitar and piano, and spending time outdoors.
Luis Díaz Peralta (@Ludipe) is a game designer who loves game jams and releases small free games often. He has also made a couple of commercial games (like Sushi For Robots) and worked on all sorts of projects for clients. He’s very interested in community initiatives and has been organising game events (both virtual and physical) for years.
Rachel Watts (@rachel_wattts) is a freelance journalist with work published at PC Gamer, Rock Paper Shotgun, Edge Magazine, The Guardian, and others. Joining the Thinky team in May 2024, she’s in charge of the day-to-day happenings of the website. If you know of an upcoming game you think Thinky Games would be interested in, she’s the gal to reach out to: rachel[at]thinkygames.com.
Corey Hardt (@corey_hardt) has been interested in games and writing for a long time, and has recently started to actually do something about it. You might know him from his work on Thinky Puzzles Quarterly, The Confounding Calendar, or his 7DRL entry Mosaic. He loves boardgames, cryptic puzzles, broughlikes and long walks on the beach.
Joel Goodwin has been writing about videogames on his site Electron Dance since 2010 although is better known for a short film he made about The Witness. A few years ago he penned a series exploring why he didn’t get on with modern puzzle games and forced himself to play Snakebird to round off the series. Things did not go according to plan: he hasn’t stopped playing puzzle games since.
